A little something I am working on...

Here are some items that I am working on for a women named Cathy at Todd's work. She has twins (19 months; one boy, one girl) and they are attending a wedding in July. Cathy's little ones are wearing black and white and wanted a little something to compliment. So below are some examples that I just sent to her. Also I am going to make a bow tie for her son out of the black with white polka dots.

Height Predictor

I have always heard that you double the child's height at 2 years old (now I know that I am technically 22 days early), of course there are other factors that much be taken into account such as parents height, nutrition, and physical exercise. For example: a gymnast will never grow to their full potential.

I went online to BabyCenter.com and filled out their online child heigh predictor. It asked for the following information:

• Child's gender - Female
• Child's Age - 2 years (almost)
• Child's weight - 28lbs
• Child's current height - 2'10"
• Mother height - 5'6"
• father's height - 5'9"

The final prediction is....

Loralai will likely be 5'5" at the age of 18!
The height predictor calculator said that based on the formula they use there is a 90% chance that it will be within 1.7 " of the prediction.

I think that this height prediction makes sense in relation to Mommy and Daddy's height, and not too short and not too tall, it is a good height to be! :)

So this morning Loralai really wanted to put all of her hair ties in her hair and this was the result that Mommy came up with! lol. Too cute :)

Loralai....

Fell asleep on her own tonight! YAY!!!!

So normally Daddy or I have to lay down next to her in bed for her to fall asleep, but tonight Loralai was still very fidgity which I think was in part because the sun was still peeking though the curtains. Mommy got tired of saying "good night Loralai, it is time to go to sleep" or laying there trying to pretend to sleep so that she would finally give in. So I decided to try out just leaving her awake and leave the room...well it worked!! She did not even try to put up a fight. I think that is might be finally ready to give this put yourself to sleep trick a try!

Happy 23 Months!

First of all I have to admit that I am a little sad because there will only be 31 more days that Loralai will be 1 years old, and there will be no more counting by months, just by half and full years.

However, I am excited because it amazes me to see how much she has changed and grown, how smart she is, and how she already has such a great sense of humor and personality. She has traits that drive me crazy now and I know will as she gets older, but are so admirable traits to have as an adult that it makes me happy! She is so bright, strong minded, knows what she wants, does not forget things, and she thinks of others (for example: if she is getting a drink or a snack she will ask for another one to bring to her friend).

Loralai Fun Facts:

• Loralai weights 28lbs

• Wears size 7-8 shoe
  

• Is obsessed with Dora the Explorer

• Every time she sees a picture of herself she says "you" so now we have had to start saying "look that is Loralai" instead of "look that is you"! lol

• Her favourite toys are babies and choo choo trains.

• She does not have a specific item that she takes to bed with her like a blanket, but every night she does pick a random item and she brings that to bed with her. For example: sometimes it might be a hat, train, car, sometimes a baby, etc.

• She loves hockey and baseball!
  

• Loralai's favourite songs to sing are Wheels on the Bus, Skinnamarink (old school I know), and Twinke Twinkle Little Star.

• Mommy is starting to embarrass her already...a song came on the radio when we were driving and I started to dance in my seat, I turned and said to "Loralai dance", she looked at me and said "no mommy no" until I stopped! haha

• Loralai's favourite foods are hotdogs, avocado maki, strawberries, banana's, chicken, eggs in any form, and chocolate (mostly Lindor mint).
  

• Loralai is getting good at her colours, but her default colour seems to be blue!
  

• She can count but unless your counting along with her her numbers are still not consistently in any particular order. Her favourite default number right now is 7.

• She is starting to get very good at 3 & 4 word sentences, like for example today when she was with her friend Ian she said: "where did Ian go?" and "Ian come to me". Also to give you an example of how sassy she is already: Carrie her Godmother and sitter had to place Loralai for a timeout because she kept running away at the park. Carrie sat her on the bench, Loralai looked up at her and said "no like you" lol. Now she has not said this again or to anyone else and I am sure she got it from the older children...but boy oh boy! Carrie just replied well that is too bad because I love you!
  

• I have been trying really hard to use the approach of when I have to discipline her to ensure that I explain why. I know that for most of the reasons I give her now she does not exactly understand, but eventually she will and I think it is important for her to know why she is receiving a consequence for her action.
  

The pictures below were taken this past Sunday at the park at the lake front. Aunt Mindy (Loralai's Godmother) joined us as we kicked the ball and ran around while Mommy was trying to get some pictures for Loralai's 2nd birthday card.

Mother's Day

So I can't wait to post a mother's day any longer! I have been trying to save showing our mother's day card until Grandma in Florida received hers...yes I know it should have been sent out in enough time but Daddy kept forgetting to bring it along with him in the morning, and I can't blame him too much I am not sure how much I would remember at 4:30am. (Sorry Grandma Maggie!)

So the next two cards were made for Loralai's Grandma's and Godmothers! They are the same except for the wording.

Anywho, my mother's day started out with breakfast in bed. Daddy made me eggs, with hash browns and toast. Daddy told Loralai that we were bringing Mommy breakfast in bed so she went over the cupboard, got the Shreddies box (which normally is a pretty typical breakfast for me) and brought them up for me! How priceless :)

I got two priceless master piece from Loralai, there is only a picture of one since I brought the other to hang up at work. I think that Daddy had a little bit of an influence with the written love you lol. The other painting had Loralai's hand prints on it so I couldn't help but hang it up beside my desk :) I also got a new Ipod Shuffle that I am going to use for running.

After I got to lay around in bed alone for the next couple of hours, we got up and headed to Georgetown for lunch with Grandma, Great-grandma and of course the rest of the fam! On the way there I realized that my camera's battery was indeed dead hence why there is not a lot of pictures :( we got stuck in traffic for 1hr so it took us 2hrs to get to our destination, and of course because I was not driving I got car sick :( so not ideal...but once we got to Great Aunt Bonnie's house we had lots of fun!

Now of course this next quote does not quite apply to me yet, but the meaning is so true, and one day in the not too far future it will!:

"By the time a women realizes her mother was right, she has a daughter that thinks she is wrong" (unknown)

When I found this quote a quite a while ago it had me reflecting on how this quote rang so true for me and my mom. There is one story that always sticks out in my mind: when I was about I would say 10 or 11 I told my mom I was going to the park with a friend, so when my mom came out to check to make sure I was ok, she saw my friend but did not see me. So she asked my friend where I was and she answered that she did not know. So after about 10 minutes of frantic looking my mom found me down at the neighbours house talking with one of the mothers. For a long time I did not at all understand why my mom was so angry with me, I got it once I started having small cousins around, but I did not actully understand it until I became a mom. You are so in love with your child, that not knowing where they are for even a split moment is such a instant gut wrenching sickening feeling. It is when you realize that you would give your life for them without hesitation.

Loralai loves to take the toilet paper roll holder from the bathroom and use it as a microphone! I finally had the camera near by to catch her rock out to Twinkle Twinkle Little Star on tape! I think that she is a natural :)

A Rainy Saturday

Today we had the first good rain storm of the season, and since last year Loralai was a little too young to remember thunder and rain with force she was actually really fascinated! Well she was a little nervous of the thunder and would say "oh no" and come running over for some comfort from Mommy, good thing that the lightening and thunder only lasted for a very short time. But Loralai was just fascinated just watch the rain come down in the backyard...well for a while anyway and then she was like enough already I am ready to go out there and play! So Mommy had to come up with an indoor activity....

So making some art seemed to be in order! She had a ball and stayed shockingly very clean! Now just wear to hang all this one of a kind abstract art?!

Long overdue playdate!

So Drake and Loralai have known each other for a long while now and used to have many play dates together, but Mommy started working full time and schedules started to conflict so our play dates sadly became fewer and fewer. But last weekend the Mommies decided enough was enough and the four of us got together again! Man oh man Loralai and Mommy forgot how much we love Drake and his Mommy Maggie!

Loralai and Drake played so well together, it was like the months they missed apart did not exist! As for Maggie and Mommy there was so much to catch up on that the hours just flew on by. We both have now decided that texting will be the best form of commumication that works for both of us to ensure that our kiddies and us, do not go months again without getting together!
